Girlfriend's Guide to: Having It All

*Disclaimer: These tips are for men, women, and all badasses of the world. This is basically just a guide on how to be a kickass human, so don’t let the title deter you, mmk? In the same style as the show it’s inspired by, it’s also pretty sassy. Now let’s get this thing GOIN.

I’m currently obsessed with “Girlfriend’s Guide to Divorce” on Netflix, and it inspired me to write Girlfriends Guide to: Having it All. Here are a few things I’ve learned about how to lead a full life, using GGTD wisdom, because it’s too relatable not to use.

You can never be perfect
The sooner you accept this, the less disappointed you’ll be throughout your life. Of course, this is not to say that you still shouldn’t try to be the best version of yourself, but you’ll never actually be flawless. Only Beyonce can do that.

Your support system is life
Being a badass independent person does not mean taking on life alone. In fact, intelligent people are more likely to ask for help and support because they realize life can be too much alone. You are a compilation of the people you surround yourself with, so make sure your squad is ready to go.

Failure is not the end
The truth is, we all fail. However, it’s not really normal for us to share our failures with others because it can be embarrassing and frustrating, so it can feel extra lonely. However, just because you got rejected for a job or someone didn’t like your latest project doesn’t mean you’ve taken the ultimate ‘L’ and life is over, even though it can sometimes feel like it.

Face value is usually bs
In the age of social media, it’s all too easy to scroll and feel envious of someone’s new “bikini body”, brand new car, or greatest achievement plastered across Facebook, and compare their successes to yourself in that moment- sitting on your computer in your bed wearing sweats and eating copious amounts of goldfish. It’s almost like they knew you were having a bad day, right? Well the truth is, they probably worked hard to get to that point, and anything that is made out to seem like an effortless win is probably bs. Success is like an iceberg, you only see the tip, but not everything underneath.

Learning to balance
Yoga teaches balance, but yoga also makes you sore. Really. Really. Sore. So don’t expect to find your life balance without getting a little sore sometimes too. Make time for your S/O for date night, but remember to have Taco Tuesday with your friends, to call your mom, and to kick bootay at work. And like yoga, the more you practice your balance, the easier it seems to get.

Feel ALL of the feels
Life can be rough sometimes, but nobody likes to share that part of their story, which can sometimes make it feel like it’s not okay to feel bad. Always block out some 'you time' when something truly bad happens so that you can let your emotions out (in a healthy way) and then from there, move on. Feel happy, sad, angry- you’re human. Just don’t take it out on someone else.
