Hungry? Always!

As an avid mozzarella stick enthusiast, I think that it is pretty safe to say that I understand your daily plight of late night snacking and wanting just that last cookie. Trust me. I have a relationship with ice cream cake like no other (who can deny those chocolate crunchies in the middle)? So why does everyone try to deprive themselves of the best part of the day? Say no to diets and yes to eating. When was the last time someone told you to eat as much as you want? It’s probably been a while, and if it hasn’t, they were probably referring to the bowl of Doritos sitting in front of you.

Most people starve themselves or skip meals thinking that they are saving calories, BUT, when you skip a meal, you are more likely to reach for that candy bar for the energy that you were supposed absorb from your lunch (it happens to the best of us). Believe it or not, skipping meals generally leads to an increase in weight gain- so pick up your fork and dig in!

What to eat?
Now you’re wondering what food exists outside of the food groups mentioned in the movie Elf, “Candy, candy canes, candy corns and syrup”, so here is your answer:
  • Drink drink drink! (Water)
    • NO I didn’t underline the ‘water’ part just to avoid the angry phone call from my mom later today. Alcohol, soda and juices are loaded with empty calories and lots of sugar, whereas water curbs appetite, flushes toxins from the body, and even improves the appearances of the skin while creating healthier hair.
  • Fruits and Veggies
    • Believe or not, the sweetness of fruit generally eradicates cravings for sweets. Before you pick up that ice cream cone try some watermelon first, then see if you still want dessert ten minutes later. I literally binge eat watermelon…It’s embarrassing.
  • Lean Meat
    • This includes chicken, turkey, fish and even some cuts of lean beef. Next time you cook, swap your regular taco meat for ground turkey (you can thank me later).
  • Grains = Gains
    • Swap white breads for multi grain or wheat. From personal experience, I think wheat toast was the greatest gift to mankind. I could eat it every day (you shouldn’t so please don’t).

Don’t forget low-fat yogurt, beans and nuts! Food is fuel and can even be fun. Did you just gasp? Yeah, I know.

**MOST IMPORTANTLY** Do not deprive yourself, “everything is good in moderation”.....therefore mozzarella sticks are forever a staple in my life. Now go reclaim your body and make yourself a lifestyle to be proud of. Bon appétite!
