4 Truths About Your Group Chat

Group chats can be a wonderful thing. They help you connect with your friends in designated online groups and it makes planning outings a hell of a lot easier than texting everyone individually. That being said, something of a group chat culture has seemed to form and there are just a few universal truth that every gc participant knows to be true.

  1. The brief absence
I swear, you leave a group chat for ten minutes to do something and when you pick your phone back up, you’re 78 messages behind. You can either choose to scroll through it all with great focus, or beg one of your friends to just give you the sparknotes version of your (10 minute) absence.

  1. The making of the plans
After hours of back and forth, your Friday night plans are now set. But wait, the time just changed- and the location- and the people- do you even have plans anymore? Everyone seems to know what’s going on but you, forcing you to send the, “Wait, so uh, what are we actually doing?” message, only for it to happen all over again.

  1. The spamming
If you are in a group chat, you can and will be spammed. You are one of three types of people in this situation:
  1. The Hider
The texts come rolling in and your phone is buzzing like one of those restaurant ‘your table is ready’ things...you hide until the coast is clear.  “Sorry I missed it guys, I was at - uh - sleeping practice.”

  1. The Catcher-Upper
You’re the one feverishly trying to keep up with the conversation thread... but at least you know what’s going on. Bless your soul.

  1. The Culprit
You have the power be so so evil, but you’re also the one that keeps the precious gc alive. Just keep the spamming to a reasonable hour.
  1. But ultimately
Your group chat pals are your ride or die. They get your screenshots, your “so and so broke my heart” texts, and share your joys and special moments when you can’t all be together in person.

LONG LIVE THE GROUP CHAT!
