7 Stages of Moving On

No matter how you spin it, moving on is hard. Whether you’re making a (literal) big move, grieving a loss of a loved one or friendship, an experience, or trying to push past the crushing feeling on that ONE test that messed up your grade, it’s always easier said than done. There’s no two ways about it, it just sucks.

Uh Meg it’s like the holidays and stuff. Why are you being so depressing GOSH
While the holidays are magical, they’re not all elves, reindeer poop and gumdrops. A lot of people feel kind of crappy (haha get it) and it’s important to acknowledge to make the best of our Christmas/ Hanukkah/ Kwanzaa/ etc.

Say yes- “Yes, I feel like a buttcheek right now.” You can’t fix it if you don’t face it.

Cry- It’s okay to cry and sit around like a potato for a bit, just make sure you don’t do that for too long or you’ll go bad.

Be realistic- Know that it won’t last forever and that you will eventually be okay. Potato no more.

Out of sight, out of mind- What they say is true, if it’s not waving in your face, you’re less likely to be consumed by it. Delete people literally and virtually out of your life if that’s what you have to do...just try not to burn your bridges along the way.

Make an effort- Some people stay sad because they like it. You have to actively try not to be, which kind of stinks but it’s either that or drowning in your own misery, and probably popcorn.

I’m not talking about the people that aggressively yell at you to cheer up when you tell them you’re incredibly upset. Like, “OH YES THANK YOU. I HADN’T THOUGHT ABOUT THAT YET I’LL JUST CHEER MYSELF TF UP THEN.”

Seek help- You have so many people and resources around you that are more than willing to help. The times when you want to see others the least is usually when you need them the most.

The actual moving on part- It’s so easy to carry pain around and to close off your heart. Re seek the beauty that you once found in the world and accept the love others have to offer. You might even be surprised at what you find.
